Victoria, BC (June 11, 2018) – Ready to Rent BC is pleased to begin development of an online platform to help communities access proven prevention strategies to increase housing stability. This project was supported by a grant from the Canadian Internet Registration Authority’s (CIRA) Community Investment Program.
“The RentSmart program is proven to help people find and keep their housing in today’s challenging housing market. With support from CIRA, RentSmart will be able to reach more communities and individuals through an online platform, helping build capacity and increase housing stability. We are excited to access new tools to increase impact and help Canadians access more resources—thanks CIRA!” – Kristi Fairholm Mader, Co-Executive Director, Ready to Rent BC.
“We are very pleased to support Ready to Rent BC and its RentSmart Online Prevention platform through our Community Investment Program,” says David Fowler, vice president of marketing and communication at CIRA. “We are certain this online innovation will have a positive impact on people in British Columbia and CIRA is proud to be part of it.”
The online platform will offer RentSmart Online Education for communities to access, a Prevention Toolkit sharing proven practices and accompanied by podcasts, and staff training portal to support the implementation of RentSmart and other proven prevention practices. The goal is to strengthen and scale capacity building for housing stability and the prevention of homelessness.

About CIRA and the Community Investment Program
CIRA is building a better online Canada through the Community Investment Program by funding charities, not-for-profits and members of the academic community who are making the Internet better for all Canadians. CIRA is best known for our role managing the .CA domain on behalf of all Canadians. While this remains our primary mandate, as a member-based not-for-profit ourselves, we have a much broader goal to strengthen Canada’s Internet. The Community Investment Program is one of our most valuable contributions toward this goal and funds projects in digital literacy, online services, research and infrastructure. Every .CA domain name registered or renewed contributes to this program.
