Here is a quick snapshot of what R2R BC has been up to over the past 2 months! In March, we spoke at BCNPHA RENT conference on ‘Increasing Housing Instability and Preventing Homelessness’; ABLED Financial Literacy conference on ‘How Financial Literacy Prevents Homelessness’ and participated in Minister Roundtables with Minister Duclos- saying the words’ housing stability and prevention’ over and over again! We are currently launching a pilot project with BC Housing to assist with their move-in processes and orientation, and to encourage people on the waitlist to take RentSmart in preparation for BC Housing.
Ready to Rent BC continues to participate in a variety of task forces including Youth Exiting Out of Care, BC Rental Coalition and Focus on Diversity. These conversations are helping to inform a literacy review of RentSmart materials, and Jaime (our amazing Resources Coordinator) is implementing many of these recommendations to increase accessibility. Ready to Rent is also looking for a new home— we have outgrown our wonderful CRD Housing clubhouse. If anyone in Victoria has any leads, please give us a call!
